Wednesday Wheelers

Wednesday Wheelers out and about Wednesday Wheelers out and about

Wednesday Wheelers

On Wednesday we go for a bike ride.  The goal isn’t miles, speeds or metres of climbing.  It is instead to gain confidence and fitness riding a bike, enjoying the Cotswold scenery, meeting people on or off bikes and finding a place to drink coffee and eat a cake (or look longingly at one if that’s your preference).  It is a completely inclusive group.

All you need to join us is a roadworthy bike, of any type. If you don’t have one, we may be able to lend one, or have a look here for a very good deal in the name of charity.

The first rule is that we ride with care and respect for each other and other road-users.  The second rule is that we go the distance and at the rate of the least confident or fit.    The third rule is that there are only two rules.

We communicate through a WhatsApp group and most people in the village will know who we are and where to find us; just ask, or email me. The start time depends on weather and that day’s other jobs and responsibilities, but it’s usually 10am at the phone box.

There is always scope for bigger distances and tougher challenges but that can happen at other times; Wednesday wheeling is for some fresh air, a bit of exercise, a few laughs, and brushing up on the skills to ride comfortably around the place.  I am accredited as a British Cycling level 1 and 2 ride leader and always happy to help people get back into cycling.  Most of us remember learning to ride a bike, a skill that is as enjoyable and memorable as, well, riding a bike.
